The David Gilmour Guitar Collection, Christie’s New York, 20 June 2019

2019 is already promising to be an exciting year for the Pop Culture & Entertainment market. The first large sale announced with great fanfare is The David Gilmour Guitar Collection to be auctioned for charity at Christie’s in New York on 20 June. The entire 120 lot auction went on view at Christie’s in London during the last week of March in a strikingly impressive display.

The auction includes Pink Floyd’s guitarist, singer and songwriter’s treasured Fender Stratocasters, Gretschs, Martins and Gibsons.  Christie’s describe it as the ‘largest and most comprehensive sale of guitars ever offered at auction’, so it will be fascinating to see how it compares to the two Eric Clapton Guitar auctions previously held by Christie’s in 1999 [sale total $5,072,350] and 2004 [sale total $7,438,624], which Wallace & Hodgson were instrumental in organising in their former working lives with Christie’s.
